Oral bacteria can be extremely dangerous to your smile. Now, a study has found that a dangerous oral bacterium called Streptococcus anginosus may also be responsible for potentially fatal brain abscesses. The Connection Between Oral Bacteria and Brain Abscesses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a recent study by the Journal of Dentistry<\/em>, researchers looked at information from 87 patients who were admitted to the hospital with brain abscesses. Using microbiological data, they were able to observe oral bacteria present in the infected tissue. In fact, of those patients where there was no clear cause for the abscess, they were a whopping three times more likely to have oral bacteria present, leading researchers to believe that the oral cavity could contribute to this type of infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
